Nara Rourke

My work ‘Breifne’ explores my family through photograph and collage. The use of mixed media allows colour and chaos to run through the work. The name of my work is the name of the land that the O’Rourke clan used to rule and the anglicised version (Breffni) was the name of my grandfather’s house. Originally I planned to draw or paint places that were meaningful to me but after my grandfather's passing I was drawn to creating a more meaningful work and to commemorate my family. The work is a reflection on myself in a literal and expressive sense. The photographs are both digital and film from the 1940’s up until present day. My decision to make this work is a reflection of family and cultural heritage, drawing, photography and collage.
