This series is a tribute to my aunty Tori, who passed away recently. I have created seven lino portraits of the women on my mother’s side. The title ‘Matriline’ was chosen very literally as each work depicts an important female member of my family. Each image was traced and transferred to create a precise depiction of each subject. I used A3 lino sheets and a thin carving tool to capture more detail in each work, such as the hair and facial features. I used black ink for a traditional and simplistic look, with the solid background emphasising the detail in each portrait. This work has been very important to me and I am extremely happy with the end result.
