My work, ‘Irrevocably Hollow’ uses acrylic and oil to investigate my experiences and emotions through strong symbolism. Each aspect of my work represents positive and negative experiences regarding my personal life. The iridescent colours of the bees represent how I have found resilience and appreciation through challenges and reflect the brighter, more colourful aspects of my personality. The inhuman blue figure represents the vessel of life. This figure is torn and without a heart, representing the struggles of self and the idea of emptiness. Rather than placing the heart within the figure, its true home is placed within a tree, full of life. The trees represent external experiences of life, and the use of eyes amongst the vines, reflect judgement. The far background is a patterned wallpaper of routine and confinement, a never-ending pattern which cannot be escaped.
